Homey Bridge Smart Home Hub – Honest In-Depth ReviewI’ve been testing the Homey Bridge alongside my Homey Pro for the past few weeks as a more affordable entry into the Homey ecosystem. It’s a streamlined, budget-friendly version of the powerful Homey Pro, ideal for beginners or smaller smart homes. While it lacks some of the advanced capabilities of the Pro model, it still delivers the excellent Homey Flow automation experience and solid multi-protocol support. Here’s my detailed, real-world review.First Impressions & Build QualityThe Homey Bridge is compact, lightweight, and has a clean, modern white design with a glowing status ring on top. It feels well-built and looks attractive on a shelf or desk. Setup is very easy — plug it in, connect via the Homey app, and you’re up and running in about 10 minutes. It supports both Wi-Fi and Ethernet (adapter not included).Features & PerformanceThe Bridge supports five key technologies:
The signature Homey Flow system is excellent and very user-friendly. You can create visual automations directly in the mobile app (e.g., “Turn on lights and play music when I arrive home”). For more complex setups, you can use the web app. Flows feel more intuitive than many other platforms.Voice Control
It works well with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri Shortcuts, letting you control your entire connected ecosystem by voice.Important Subscription NoteThis is the biggest difference from the Homey Pro:
- Z-Wave Plus
- Zigbee
- Wi-Fi
- BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy)
- Infrared (IR)

- You get 3 months of Homey Premium included.
- After that, a subscription ($2.99/month) is required to connect more than 5 devices and access advanced features like Homey Insights (energy monitoring, detailed logs, etc.).
- Beginners starting a smart home on a budget
- Smaller apartments or homes with 5–20 devices
- Users who like the Homey Flow system and clean app interface
- People wanting Z-Wave + Zigbee + IR support without spending on the Pro model
- Those who don’t mind a small monthly fee for full functionality
- The 5-device limit without Premium feels restrictive for most users.
- Lacks Matter and Thread support (available on the more expensive Pro model).
- Fewer advanced options and slightly less powerful hardware than the Pro.
- No built-in speaker or display — it’s a pure hub.
- Some users may find the subscription model annoying after the trial period.
